Performance and user experience
Although, the name of the app doesn’t correspond to its main functions, as in most of the cases people speak to strangers, but let it be so. The product helps to start a text, audio or video chats in special rooms with other users from all over the world. Or you can make private chats with selected users, if you wish. You can find new friends or discuss hobbies, play games or sing karaoke together – at least app founders think so.
The design of the product is not bad. Clear buttons with intuitive symbols, easy search by rooms, a lot of stickers and emoticons, virtual gifts and all the things a chatting app requires. The user photos are too small for mobile phones, however, on tablets they look large enough to recognize a person. Novice users can easily sign up and use the app without struggling with numerous functions and buttons – the app interface is neat enough, so I put 4.5/5.
I can list the following features of the recent app version. Here are they:
- Free group chats with thousands of chat rooms for any type of communication on any topic;
- No extra charges
for international calls;
- Virtual gift and stickers store – updated regularly to bring most popular characters;
- Compatible with many devices and 3G, 4G, LTE, or WiFi Internet connection;
- One-to-one chat room for private chatting;
- Opportunity to create new rooms.
However, a lot of users report poor performance, crushes and lags. This may have something to do with Android or iOS version or Internet connection, because the video stream requires a lot, but it may happen to app errors too. At my Android it worked well.
Another concern is an ethical aspect of the project. Developers for sure had great intentions, but some rooms are created for 18+ actions or socially dangerous manipulations. As no significant age verification is included in the app, it may be not a super option for teenagers. All in all – 4/5.
Performance and User Experience
The performance is completely okay for me. Most of Google Play and App Store user reviews are also positive. In the Google Play there are 36 thousand 5-star Paltalk reviews against less than 8 thousand 1-star reviews. The average rating of Android-users is 4.0, while iOS users gave 4.2 out of 5, what is very good for such kind of app, to compare it with competitors. As there are some negative reviews as well, so I cannot rate the app higher than 4.5/5, but that is not bad at all.
For Paltalk you need a device with Android 4.1 and up or an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch 9.0 and up. The app is available for Mac and Amazon Kindle. There is no official Paltalk version for Microsoft devices, however, there is always a chance to get an APK and install it on your Windows Phone. I put only 3.5 out of 5 because the app requires a 9.0 iOS version and limits the opportunities of 7.0, 8.0 and Microsoft devices users.
- The performance is stable enough;
- Free and fast video and audio calls;
- Intuitive interface.
- Not supported by iOS under 9.0;
- Can be used by perverts or pedos, as no moderation is provided;
- May crush on some devices.
If you are bored and looking for a captivating communication with strangers on any topics, be it travelling, foreign languages, motorcycles or embroidery – I can recommend Paltalk for you. Although you are more likely to use other apps for communicating with pals, this one is great for random chat partner search. We hope it is used in a polite manner as specified by app developers and not for some suspicious activity.
